We’ll write your resume…

I’ve been in the search and recruiting business for over 20 years, and over the years I’ve written or rewritten thousands of resumes to be submitted for hundreds of different jobs. I think I’ve learned about the hiring process during this period of time, but I know that I’ve learned at least one thing about resumes.

Even though every career/job situation is different in some ways, and even though some of these situations might very well require a special resume – what I’ve learned is that many (if not most) hiring managers (the person who will actually decide whether or not to interview and/or hire you) believe in the “Keep It Simple” philosophy when it comes to resumes.

And, since a Keep It Simple Resume is what many hiring managers want to see, that’s exactly what I will write for you if you have me write your resume – a Keep It Simple Resume.

This isn’t brain surgery – it’s not rocket science.  We’re just talking about a resume – a resume that will help you get an interview and a job.  It’s real Simple. I’ll write you a Simple resume that will make it very easy for anyone reading it to determine who you are – professionally and educationally.  And this will increase the likelihood that you will actually be interviewed for a job (if you are actually qualified for the position).

Please know – your resume will be a professional-looking document, and it will be a complete representation of your career.  Simple doesn’t mean unprofessional or incomplete – it just means that it will be Simple and easy for anyone who reads it to figure out just who the heck you are.

Most people do not read resumes – they glance at them quickly (often for less than 10 seconds) looking for key words or phrases relating to the applicant’s experience and/or educational background.  They’ve usually got a large number of resumes, and their first objective is to identify the “best” few out of the bunch.  Put yourself in their position.  The easiest (quickest) way to do this is to rule out most of them.  By definition, the remaining few are the “best.”  In other words, they are looking for a reason to rule you out if they can’t decide quickly (10 seconds or less) to rule you in.

This next part is REALLY IMPORTANT.  No matter how well-written your resume is – no matter how relevant your background is to the job – no matter how well educated you are – no matter how close to a perfect candidate you are – no matter what.  If your resume doesn’t survive this first cut and it ends up in the “thanks, but no thanks pile” – YOU WILL NOT GET THE JOB!

The Keep It Simple Resume that I write for you will increase the chances that your resume will survive the first cut.  It will make it more likely that your credentials will end up in the “maybe” pile.  And then, the rest is up to you.  I can’t promise that you’ll get the job.  What I can do is increase the likelihood that, if you don’t get the job, it will be because of your interview and not because you were never considered for the job in the first place.  In other words, my Keep It Simple Resume will make it more likely that it will be up to you whether or not you get the job.

And, if you think about it a bit, the Keep It Simple Resume is even a good thing for you to have if you are not qualified for the job.  In this case, the hiring manager will be able to quickly decide that you are not a viable candidate for his/her job.  This saves you a lot of time and effort – time and effort you don’t have to waste while you’re looking for a job.

Obviously, the Keep It Simple Resume is not for everyone.  Seasoned professionals, people with very specific and/or unusual skills, very senior managers – these are all examples of individuals who probably need all the bells and whistles of a more detailed and longer resume.  And, by the way, if that’s what you need I can certainly write one for you.

Here’s a Simple suggestion.  Reach out to me and let’s talk – about your professional background, and your education, and your current/past job, and about your career goals.  And at the end of this conversation, I’ll tell you exactly what I think.  I’ll probably be able to help you.  But if I don’t think that I can, I’ll try and refer you to someone who can.

One more thing.  After I write your Simple Resume I will email it to you.  After you’ve had a chance to read it, you and I will discuss any required changes/additions/tweaks.  I’ll keep working on it until it is exactly what you want/need.

So you see, you’ve got nothing to lose (except a little bit of your time), and potentially a lot to gain.
