Please know – your resume will be a professional-looking document, and it will be a complete representation of your career. Simple  doesn’t mean unprofessional or incomplete – it just means that it will be Simple  and easy for anyone who reads it to figure out just who the heck you are.

                                                                                                                     Most people do not read resumes – they glance at them quickly (often for less than 10 seconds) looking for keywords or phrases relating to the applicant’s experience and/or educational background. They’ve usually got a large number of resumes, and their first objective is to identify the “best” few out of the bunch. Put yourself in their position. The easiest (quickest) way to do this is to rule out most of them. By definition, the remaining few are the “best.” In other words, they are looking for a reason to rule you out if they can’t decide quickly (10 seconds or less) to rule you in.

                                                                                                                      This next part is REALLY IMPORTANT. No matter how well-written your resume is – no matter how relevant your background is to the job – no matter how well educated you are – no matter how close to a perfect candidate you are – no matter what. If your resume doesn’t survive this first cut and it ends up in the “thanks, but no thanks pile” – YOU WILL NOT GET THE JOB!

  • Should I update my resume?

    Yes.  If your resume is more than a year old, or if your current job title/responsibilities have changed, then yes, you should update your resume.  This does not mean just adding your new information.  Over time, this results in your resume becoming too long (don’t forget, most people don’t read resumes.  They just glance at them.  Too much information increases the chances that important and relevant data will be missed).

  • Why should I get professional help with my resume?

    Having the best possible resume is a matter of degrees.  As we have already mentioned, most resume readers just glance at them for the first cut.  And, if you don’t make this first cut, you will not even be considered for the job.  Considering this, having the best possible resume is the way to go.  And a professional resume writer can do this better than you can.

  • Do I need a cover letter?

    Yes, you do.  By definition, your resume is a general document – covering your entire educational and professional background.  Your cover letter deals with your specific experience that is relevant to the job you are applying for.  Again, the objective is to do everything you can to make the first cut in the resume reading process.
